The Great Giver

Father, you are more generous and creative than I could ever imagine.  You give generously to your children, taking delight in providing for us.  Not only do you provide what we need, but you go above and beyond what we need.  Your generosity knows no bounds.  For this is who you are.  You give with abandon.  You hope that we are grateful, but you do not demand gratefulness as a condition of your giving.  You just give because you love to give.  We often do not have things because we do not ask you for them.  Many times, you give without us even asking.  You are the great Giver.  You love to give good gifts to your children.  It is your goodness that leads us to repentance.  We are drawn closer to you because of your goodness towards us.  And your giving is so creative!  We often are surprised by how you give to us, not only what we need, but above and beyond what we need.  You are just that generous!  Time would fail me to recount all the times you have given to us, above and beyond what we asked for or even needed.  You do it over and over again.  Many times, you give to us, and we don’t even realize that it is you who has given to us.  You are that humble.  You don’t make a big splash when you give.  You just do it.  Many times, we go through dark periods when we can scarcely see you at work.  But you are always working in the background.  You are delighted in our coming to you and asking for your provision.  You love to hear the petitions of your children.  It connects us to you in ways that nothing else can do.  Your Spirit in us gives us hope in those dark periods.  You comfort us by your Spirit, and you remind us through your words that you are trustworthy.  You give your Spirit generously and you want us to give generously to all whom our lives touch.  We are to be generous givers like you.  We are to imitate you, the great Giver.  Father, help us to be exactly like you in giving to others.  May I give with abandon, not worrying about my own needs, but looking to meet the needs of all whom my life touches.  This is my prayer.  Amen.
